Into Thin Air: On Top Of the World

چهارشنبه, ۲۶ مهر ۱۳۹۶، ۱۱:۳۶ ب.ظ

Experiencing the best moment ever, he couldn’t breathe properly to absorb enough oxygen in order to fill his lungs whit fresh air. By early afternoon of May 10th, he could finally see himself on top of the world, where he was right on the boundary between China and Nepal, the summit of Mount Everest. Although he was very low on energy, he could see himself in the place he always wanted to be. It was such a stupendous feeling for him to be there despite the fact that he had not slept for 57 hours and he had nothing more than a bowl of ramen soup and some peanuts in the last three days.

Why is the name of the passage "into thin air"? Thin air reflects some kind of invisibility and being hidden and it becomes more mysterious to me, so my next question is why the author uses this title while he has mentioned the sights around the mount climber when he’s on the apex of Mount Everest? Invisibility represents a kind of caution and this title is a symptom of danger. In the sentence “the sweep of earth beneath my feet was a spectacular sight” I can feel a kind of contradiction, a contradiction of spectacular danger in which I think the author wants to picture the excitement and the beauty of danger. And in the following sentences, you can see the idea of trying too hard and withstanding a lot of hardships to reach the superior goals of your life and learn to take risks for them to come true.
